The mission of The Salvation Army Women's
Auxiliary is to promote the purposes of The Salvation Army.
In San Antonio, the Auxiliary supports The Salvation Army, both
financially and in volunteer hours, with the multi-faceted community
social service programs.
The San Antonio Women's Auxiliary was first organized on October 23, 1932, at the request of The
Salvation Army Advisory Board. It is the oldest Auxiliary in the
Texas Division, and the second oldest in the United States. At
our founding, fifty-seven women pledged their support to the Army's
work with the Rescue Home.
In 1974, the Auxiliary was rechartered and
its work expanded to meet the growing needs of new programs being
developed. The Auxiliary's mission broadened to become a mission
that included all the social service programs under the San Antonio
Area Command. Today, Women's Auxiliary members serve with all
the social service programs in San Antonio.
We have approximately 150 members. About half of us are very faithful in attendance and others are fairly faithful. Only a few are considered 'inactive', usually due to poor health. All ladies are committed to serving on at least two of our 31 committees, many are on 4 or 5 committees, because they enjoy the work and the fellowship. We have a strong Auxiliary, both financially and numerically. They are hard workers and love to serve the Lord through their service to the Auxiliary. The Area Command and staff feel blessed to have such loyal and faithful ladies on board. We have only to ask for assistance and they will do all they can to make our programs successful. |
