The Spurs Drug-Free Youth Basketball League is a socially-themed recreational basketball program in San Antonio and South Texas that delivers anti-drug, alcohol and tobacco messages to participants. Volunteer coaches receive special training on how to talk to their players about drugs, alcohol and tobacco in order to convey anti-use messages to the players during the season. All players and recite the pledge prior to every game. Before or after designated games, players and coaches are required to attend special workshops that address smart decision-making and life skills issues.
Registration:
Mid October through early December
Registration Fee is $10.00
Age Groups:
Ages 5-6; Ages 7-8; Ages 9-10; and Ages 11-12
Players can play up if a slot is available. All slots will go to the age appropriate players. (This means a ten year old will be allowed to play in the 11-12 year old division if room is available. They must also play in their own age bracket. Players cannot play down.)

Placement:
Participants will be placed on teams to ensure balance.
Practices:
Practices will be scheduled on a first come basis.
Due to limited space, formal practices will end as soon as
the season begins.
Games:
Games begin in mid January and end in February. Games
are Monday thru Thursday at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Coaches:
All coaches are volunteers and must pass a criminal
Background check, view The Salvation Army “Playing It Safe” Video, and become certified through the Spurs Drug-Free Youth Basketball League. Coaches Clinics will be announced in advanced.
