Men's Emergency Shelter

Our Emergency Shelter is a program open 365 days a year providing a safe and clean environment for homeless. Our staff interviews each individual to define their need and a plan of action to meet that need.

Clients can participate in one or more of the following programs under the Men's

Emergency Shelter Program:

Homeless Overnight Clients
Homeless men who come to the Dave Coy Center for any number of reasons are extended Three days free every 90 days. They are properly registered in our facility, and are given Three nights lodging, meals and a clean place to stay.

Extended Overnight
After the three (3) days, in order to extend the client's stay they must see a Case Manager who will interview the homeless man to ascertain their needs. They can stay as long as they maintain the house rules, discipline and seek to help themselves. A $ 10 nightly program service fee is required for this program.

Medical Clients
Clients are usually referred to Dave Coy Center by another agency or one of the medical facilities of SAPD. Here the individual is given counseling and if necessary we disperse the medication for them. They are permitted to stay here until recovery and the client is able to move into another part of the program such as the workers program or referred to another agency.

Workers Program

This program is a 60 bed transitional program, providing counseling, job and housing placement. After an interview with a Case Manager and verification of permanent employment, clients in the workers program may remain at the Dave Coy Center until they are able to move into independent living. The key component to this program is that the client must have and keep a verifiable job. the individual is given a bed and a locker to keep his personal belongings so he could lock and keep the key until the client is able to move out on his own and able to support himself in the community.

In the worker's program, there are additional recovery steps that will continue to be monitored such as nightly programming. Required programs such as Life skills classes and a 12 step program known as a "Moses group" are mandatory attendance for this program. A $ 70 dollar weekly program service fee is required for this program.

Safe Zone Sleep Program

This contractual program with The City of San Antonio provides 60 beds for chronic homeless men. A blue referral ticket is given to client upon request from our Outreach TEam serving the homeless at the City's Travis Park, or designated place such as the Dave Coy Center. Once a week clients are mandated to interview with a Case Manager. Three free nights are given every 90 days. Case management is required for individual clients for program extension.

Senior Nutrition Program

The Senior Nutrition Program housed at the Dave Coy Center is known as the Comprehensive Nutrition Project. This program is administered through a contract with The City of San Antonio: Department of Community Initiatives Senior Services. Seniors meeting the criteria are able to receive a wholesome lunch meal at the Dave Coy Center. This program is open to both Men and Women. There is no fee associated with the program, however, age limit is 60 years old and above or disabled, clients must be registered through a Dave Coy Case Manager.

Non-Overnight services to clients

Residents can come to the Dave Coy Center who are in need of services such as a shower, clean clothes, personal hygiene, instructions, and/or Case Management or Pastoral Care. A mass feeding program for residents is offered for the dinner meal. A client is given a yellow ticket and is mandated to sign in for the free meal. This program is open to men / women and needy families.
